About
Meena Kang (they/them) is an artist, designer, and activist navigating many passions and realities.
Born in Daejeon, South Korea, Meena grew up in Minneapolis, MN. During high school, Meena spent time in Ibaraki, Osaka, where they studied Japanese language. They are currently based in New York, recently having graduated with a BFA from the Costume Design program at the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama. They enjoyed taking further courses in costume production and crafts, technology arts, and violin performance. In 2022, Meena took their studies to the National University of Singapore, to study East Asian art, film, theatre practices, and theatre history.
Following the George Floyd murder in their South Minneapolis neighborhood, and the surge of Asian hate following the COVID-19 pandemic, Meena has involved themselves heavily in racial social justice and activism. They dream of intersecting their creativity and activism, using art as a catalyst for social change and uplifting BIPOC artists and voices. As a young, queer, Asian adoptee, Meena possesses a unique perspective on life they hope to share through their creative content and the stories they tells.
